Many steps have been skipped over because i was to lazy and excited to take pictures of them. what i can describe in the removal process is that its extremely easy! Take your time, make lots of bags for parts, label everything as we have been and you should be just fine. Taking lots of pictures helps too!

|Remove the Throttle linkage.
Notice how everything on the right is labeled and moved over to make room.

Should have enough room where the battery and intake was to stick your hands in and remove the backside cabling, this includes mostly heater hoses, pressure lines (fuel), ground on the transmission, starter cable, and the alternator cable(probably go from the right side).

If you already havent done so, remove the power cable(s) from the main fuse box. There are two cables, one from the battery and starter, and one main one that is connected to the long harness. remember where these go as you will need to reinstall them in the correct locations. If you are planning on rewiring your battery to the trunk like i am then this is a good time to inspect the cable and decide how you wanna proceed with the relocation.

Today i tackled the Transmission linkage pin(bitch pin)---which should definitely be renamed..this was easier than taking my axles out.
Tools needed: Air Hammer-Chisel piece attached
Time:15 minutes top

This is based on the assumption you have air tools. if you dont, go out and spend the 300...its well worth the cash.

I took this picture from: http://www.performanceforum.com/wesvann/honda/bitch/bitch.html
which i found via : http://g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190542&highlight=bitch+pin
Take off the metal clamp surrounding the pin.

Firstly throw the transmission into either first or third gear, this will allow for more space to work with as your going to pull the linkage pin toward the rear of the car.

This guy went all out....unnecessary..Put the air hammer on the bottom of the pin and make sure the pressure regulator is set to the highest. Its definitely a good idea to wear safety glasses here because your going to unsettle a lot of debris and you dont want anything in your eyes...

Now Go! use the air hammer and launch that pin right outta there. be careful not to exceed the diameter of the pin with the chisel. You should be able to push the pin beyond half the shaft. Then all you need to do is take a regular hammer and smaller chisel and tap it nicely out.
It is essential that you dont use the air hammer to drive the pin all the way out because the transmission casing is aluminum and is easily damaged. just use it to break the pin loose and send it about 70% out. Dont loose the pin...its small..keep it with the clamp.
Now the linkage should drop freely and your good to go! For me this means i just gotta remove the engine top side cabling (grounds, throttle, cluctch, fuel, heater, etc) and the engine will be ready to pull.

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Next up is removing the shift linkage pin (AKA Bitch pin). Then i just have to remove the cabling on the top side of the engine. - Engine grounds, clutch cable, throttle body cable, engine mounts(last), my siren (not enough clearance), andd then i should be able to pull the engine and send the girl for a paint job...
It was time to return to the rebuild....
Removing the Drive axles, tie-rod, and lower control arm
TIME: 2 hours...
i needed to buy a new impact cuz my CH wasnt cutting it...
This is the mastercraft one i bought...well worth the $200...

Its also a good idea to remove the brake caliper, caliper mount, and rotor...much more room to work! zip tie the caliper to the fork if you dont wanna drain your fluid and remove anything.
There are 2 12mm bolts holding the caliper in
2 17mm bolts holding the mount in.
the rotor should come freely after taking the 2 retaining screws out. You dont have to put these back in! the lugs will do the job in holding it together...

Then your gonna need a ball joint breaker...this is where you need to go to town....hammer the shit outta the balljoints and control arm..

The axle nut is a 32mm(largest one on the Teg) and needs to be removed in order to take the axle out.
Now remove hammer the axle in to pop it from the hub and pry it out from the transmission. This is actually harder than it sounds...and when you get to the driver side axle you need to pry it from the intermediate shaft in-between the transmission..

After your gonna have a ton of bolts/screws/parts so make sure your organized!!!
if you look closely you can tell the my brake pads are of poor ass quality because the shims broke on 2 of them...last time i buy ATE...

1990 Acura Integra GS (DA)
Recent interior work. (getting tired of doing the rebuild at the moment...)
My pioneer Z2 was sitting to low and i decided to put it at eye level. this of course meant i had to once again tear apart my dash, remove the heater control unit and relocate it in the glovebox. Thankfully i didnt have many wires to extend. stock height was just enough!
After the heater unit was relocated (minus the control switch for heat adjustment) i cut out the entire heater vent and blocked the blower entry point (dont want the deck to get hot).
After all that (2.5 hours...) i trimmed the factory dash trim and just threw the deck inside to see how it would look. this ISNT the final product...obviously... i have some abs plastic ill use for a dash kit and tidy everything up soon...

Cut a hole in the glove box...

Removed the heater vent
I basically had to cut it into several pieces in order to remove it...very annoying...
Ill eventually mount the heater unit at the top of the glove box...

with a tiny trimming it should look decent afterwords...

Annd....where the deck use to be it where im gonna mount my boost guage, wideband O2 sensor, and several switches(fuel pump, clutch kill, main 12v power(for the future push start), and my pioneer bypass switch)
On the left of the deck i might retrofit either more guages or make a custom holder for my iphone.

Vehicle Remote Starter Installation

So i thought i would start off with a very useful post that might get me into trouble but is worth sharing.

Living in Canada means you understand cold, and what going outside to start your vehicle in the morning feels like. The remedy? Remote starters...haha ok enough of the introduction from hell. you no what it is, what it does, maybe not fully what it can do but you understand the jist of it.

How to install a remote starter/security system into your own vehicle.
This is simply a basic instructional aid on how to install a one-way or two-way remote starter/security system into a vehicle.
For the demonstration we shall use my own vehicle.

Type of remote starter/security used: Nustart NUAS-8000 MSRP: $399.99-499.99
This can be purchased at many retailers, including Best Buy. This is a almost the exact same unit as a Compustar which holds a larger name. They are actually interchangable brains but you don't need to worry about that yet.

*NOTE: Many if not majority of vehicles require what is called a bypass. This is an electronic add on that bypasses (hence the name) the vehicles factory security, acts as a key, etc. It is installed in conjunction with the starter and is necessary for the remote starter to function correctly. More about bypasses later.

The vehicle i will use as an example does NOT need a bypass.
1990 Acura Integra
Many older vehicles do not have chipped keys, nor factory security. Making installation much simpler and quicker!
That being said, when you purchase your starter, be sure to ask the sales guy if your vehicle requires a bypass. they can run up to about $150 CA.

Now lets get started!

Tools Required
-----------------
Wire strippers
Wire cutters
Wire crimper
Assorted screwdrivers (a cordless drill is recommended)
Multi-meter (set to DC)
Assorted picks
Solder pen/iron
Solder
Zip ties
Electrical tape
Knife
Assorted Pliers

There are a few more minor tools that are not needed but make the job easier, such as Magnetic dish, drill bit adapters, universal drill bits, etc

Now before you begin, you need to acquire the correct vehicle wiring data. (colors of ignition wires, door lock wires, etc)
This may be done by researching on the internet (cant be sure about the accuracy however), or by visiting a retailer who installs them and ask politely to have a copy for your vehicle.

I realize this is not the best place for an entire article so next time it will be in PDF, or word document. however i already started this one so i will continue with a long blog...

1) *I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE NOR LIABLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR VEHICLE, DO SO AT OWN RISK. THIS IS SIMPLY A TOOL, COMMON SENSE MUST BE APPLIED. IF YOU DONT THINK YOU CAN DO IT, DONT!
There are serious risks involved with this type of work. Airbags are extremely easy to pop, DONT GO NEAR ANY WIRES COVERED IN YELLOW LOOM. its an airbag wire..There is always a risk. from the small things like blowing a fuse to the worst case senario being you fried the ECU, BCM, or blew an airbag. BE CAREFUL! This is a installation best left to professionals. but try it if you must...

Here is the diagram we will follow for locating the wires during installation. Basic explanation of the wires:

12v: Constant 12 volts running through this wire, strip/attach LAST during installtion. do not allow it to come into contact with any other bare wire.
Starter: 12 volts is passed through this wire during crank allowing the engine to start.
Ignition: 12 volts is passed through this wire when the key is inserted and turned to the on position. required to start vehicle.
Accessory: This is a very useful wire to identify as it controls your vehicles electronics such as heating, headunit, lights, etc) 12 volts is passed through when the key is in the accessory position.
Second Ignition/Accessory/Starter: Many vehicles use multiple wires to control different things. if your vehicle requires a second ouput, you must build a relay. more on relays later.
Tachometer: this is usually found directly on a injector, or coil depending on vehicle. It is used during remote start to correctly identify the vehicles RPM and other things.
Power Lock/Unlock: self explanatory. the wires used to lock or unlock your vehicle.
Parking lights: These are the lights that turn on when your vehicle has started without the key in the ignition or the headlights turned on. Usually it is the setting in between off and full headlights. It is required to identify that the vehicle has been started.
Door Triggers: These are usually only necessary for manual transmission vehicles to identify that a door has been opened. If the door has been opened the vehicle will NO longer remote start. it prevents the vehicle from flying forward if someone has accidentally shifted gears.
The next few are not required for most common installations.
Brake Wire: This is connected to the vehicles brake wire to allow the starter to be turned off if the brake pedal is pushed down. It also allows us to program the brain. More on programming later.

The next important thing to read is the polarity of the wires. Different polarity's work in different ways and sometimes require relays, resistors, or diodes to work correctly. Make sure to check your starters wiring sheet for the polarity of the wires. Example: If the ignition wire off the starter is negative (-) and the ignition wire on your vehicle is negative (-), your OK! just connect them.
Example 2) If your parklight wire from your starter is positive (+) and your vehicle has negative (-) parklights, you must construct a relay to connect the negative parklights. More on relays to follow.

Now that you have a basic understanding of the wires, where they may be found, polarity, relays, you are ready to begin on the vehicle.

Firstly enter the vehicle and take apart the dash, steering column, kick panel, or wherever the tech data says your wires are located.
When you begin to identify wires, strip them lightly and test them using your multimeter. To use your multimeter, firstly identify a good ground in your vehicle and attach the negative post to it. after setting the meter to DCV, attach the positive to the wires you are testing and check their voltage. Guide below.

12V: Always has 12 volts. strip and test this last.
Ignition: will have 12v when the key is in the igniton and turned to on.
Starter: if positive (+), will only have 12 volts during crank, then will return to 0. If negative (-), the opposite will occur.
Accessory: 12 volts when the key is in the "acc" position.

At this point you should have taken your dash apart, and identified and tested the wires in your vehicle. If you have done this portion correctly, you have achieved a great deal! good job.

The next part is the most crucial with any installation. the Preperation.
This is where you will take your brain, attach the neccesary wires, tape and concel them, and decide where they need to be ran and attached. this is also the time to extend wires that may be too small. Its much easier to extend them on the bench then under the car. I will post various pictures of a good preparation and one that will waste your time and require extra wiring, etc. Ill put up pictures of tips and tricks to use when doing a prep and what the final product should look like. right now ill move on because i dont have any pictures.

Lets say your prep is done, although its really not because i havnt explained how to do it properly yet. but lets just pretend.

Now you would take your finished brain and find a good spot for mounting it in the vehicle. this should be done prior to your prep actually but w.e. The ideal spot is one that cannot be seen easily nor tampered with without serious effort. Hide it and keep it out of the way from your vehicles major components (steering column shaft, brake/gas/clutch pedals). After mounting your brain, begin attaching the wires from the starter to the car. I usually start with the ignitions, then move on to any in the kick panels, and finally end with the bypass and 12 volts.
stripe and solder your wires carefully, ensuring proper connectivity and not a cold solder. tape them up and clean it up by a) using wire loom to hide any wires or b) using electrical tape to black them out. either is acceptable.

Now you have successfully done the main wiring and can finish the install by running the antenna (follow manufactures guide for positioning), and programming your remotes. for this specific model, your programming works as follows:
1) Insert the key into the ignition
2) Turn to the on/off position 5 times very quickly (within 5 seconds)
3) Quickly press the lock button on each remote.
correct programming is indicated by a beep from the brain after each remote is programmed and by 2 beeps after confirming that the programming is complete.

Now clean up and reinstall the dash, trim, panels, etc and you have just installed a remote starter ALL BY YOURSELF! WOOPIE!

*This will be edited for content and pictures soon but right now im to tired. sorry for any typos!

I'm Back!

Well it's been over a year since i have blogged and its time i started again. For those who read my previous blog (KK Output) the reason im keeping it alive is that it reminds me of my interests and how they change over the year. Or how they dont change every year.
Well my new blogs are gonna be intented to cover things im currently doing or involved in.
Blogs on How-To's regarding automotive repair, upgrading, aftermarket installing that i have learned in the last few years. I think its important to share so everyone is the wiser when buying new cars, parts, or having service done. I'll share to the best of my experience on how much the average customer is paying and over-paying. I will provide pictures, diagrams, videos, and possible hand drawn pictures covering what comes to mind!

Automotives is not my only hobby, i plan to post information regarding Home Theatre systems and the do-it yourselfer who wants a system without paying to much.

Computers/Laptop may be my specalty at this point and i will share what i can. Information on small repairs, and maintainance to full build's and what type of system to build.

Well here we go!

Hotel Under The Sea!

1,200 Square Feet Under the Sea

View of one of the most vibrant coral reefs on Earth, book a room at the world's first underwater hotel

Bruce Jones has spent much of his career designing underwater toys for the rich and famous. The 50-year-old president of U.S. Submarines is best known for building ultra luxe custom subs, $80-million vessels that feature private staterooms, paneled interiors made from exotic hardwoods, plush carpeting, and enough on board oxygen to keep you and 10 friends breathing easy for three weeks of cruising at depths of nearly 1,000 feet. Now Jones is redirecting his expertise in undersea opulence toward the hotel industry. His plan: to open the Poseidon Mystery Island, the world’s first major resort at the bottom of the ocean, by September 2008.

“When I was in high school, I was always writing letters to Jacques Cousteau and sketching underwater habitats,” Jones recalls. In 2000, he took the first step toward the real thing, offering a reward to whomever found the best location for his futureundersea playground. “I’ve got a lot of friends in the submersible business who are also scuba divers,” he says. “So I put the word out that if someone came up with the perfect spot, we’d pay them $10,000.” A business associate and avid diver suggested a reef off the Bahamian island of Eleuthera and collected his reward. But Jones eventually ran into trouble negotiating a price for the site with its American owners. After a year of fruitless back-and-forth, he decided to set his sights farther afield, on Fiji.

Scrubs

"Scrubs" focuses on the strange experiences of Dr. John "J.D." Dorian (Zach Braff, "Garden State"), a medical resident, as he continues on his healing career in a surreal hospital crammed full of unpredictable staffers and patients -- where humor and tragedy can merge paths at any time.
Joining the rumpled J.D. at Sacred Heart Hospital are fellow residents Chris Turk (Donald Faison, "Remember the Titans," "Felicity") -- J.D.'s college buddy who is part of the more elite surgical group -- and the beautiful but socially awkward Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke, "Roseanne").
Keeping a watchful eye over these young doctors are the caustic chief of medicine, Dr. Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins, "Courage Under Fire"), the abrasive but caring Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley, "Wall Street," "Platoon"), and no-nonsense nurse Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes, "Oz"). Neil Flynn ("Magnolia") the hospital janitor, portrays J.D.'s nemesis who never seems to miss an opportunity to harass his target.
"Scrubs," received four Emmy Award nominations in 2005, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series. Zach Braff has received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series and two Golden Globe nominations for his portrayal of "J.D.".
In its debut season, "Scrubs" was nominated for two Emmy Awards and a People's Choice Award. In 2004 "Scrubs" was a winner of a prestigious Humanitas Prize; beginning in that same year, the series was nominated for three consecutive a Producers Guild Awards 2004-2006. "Scrubs" is produced by Touchstone Television. Bill Lawrence ("Spin City") is the executive producer and creator.

All Over Stephen Colbert

The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong.
If you don't already watch The Colbert Report, it's a definite must see show! His view on politics(when he is being serious) is something that i think everyone must consider, not only is he flipping hilarious but his input is very valid. Mostly I like him because of the way he butchers the Presidency and US government.

The Terrible Transition

Majority of people are going back to school on Monday, i no lots who have all ready started mostly people from university and grant mac. its not that i don't want to go back its that i havn't done anything productive during the break. Don't get me wrong i sometimes hate school but its time for a change i think. Tons of people are probably regretting tomorrow, but i personally am kinda glad, because i'm getting tired of waking up at 3 everyday and sleeping at 5.

Lets Start It Off!
